Group Stage Format and Logistics
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is making history with the first-ever 48-team tournament. Teams will be drawn into 12 groups of four, with the top two from each group and the eight best third-place teams advancing to the Round of 32. This expanded format means more opportunities to see teams in action, and the group stage will be the longest and busiest in World Cup history.
With four games scheduled daily during the first two weeks of the tournament and six games each day during the final days of group play, corporate groups will have numerous options to catch the action. Once the group phase ends, the knockout rounds begin with the Round of 32, followed by the Round of 16. All these rounds occur without rest days, ensuring non-stop excitement for 27 days straight.
Unlike previous tournaments, the 2026 World Cup spans across North America, and while travel is extensive, FIFA has clustered the 16 host cities into three regions to minimise travel distances:
Western Region: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver.
Eastern Region: Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Toronto.
Central Region: Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey.
Most teams will stay within one region during the group stage, making it easier for corporate groups to attend multiple games without excessive travel.
The knockout stages will introduce more movement, but FIFA plans to design favourable travel paths for teams that win their groups. Corporate groups can enjoy smoother itineraries while following their selected teams.
Corporate event planners can take advantage of this by creating networking events, team-building activities, or even combining business with pleasure across different cities, each offering its own unique attractions.
We will officially know what countries have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup starting in June 2025. Some countries will of course know earlier, and some will know later, depending on the results of their qualifying rounds.
The FIFA World Cup Draw will most likely take place in December 2025.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup promises to be an unforgettable experience, with more matches, more teams, and unprecedented excitement. Insider Sports is preparing exclusive packages for corporate groups that include tickets, hotel accommodations, and complete hospitality services across multiple host cities.
